South Australian MP Makes Fresh Bid To Legalise Euthanasia

MP makes fresh bid to legalise euthanasia, May 11, 2010.

Another attempt is being made to legalise euthanasia in South Australia.

Independent MP Bob Such will introduce a private member's bill this week in the House of Assembly.

Last year a similar bill proposed by the Greens in the Legislative Council was narrowly defeated 11 to nine.

Mr Such says his legislation is tighter and would only be allowed when a patient who is dying cannot

get adequate pain relief.

"This bill has merit because it's very limited and has safeguards in terms of checks and balances," he said.

"It's not available to anyone who simply wants to end their life and it's not about people who just don't want to live any more, that isn't allowed under my bill."
