General Information

As well as accessing palliative care, there are many ways to secure your comfort and rights at end-of-life, including making use of the new options provided by enacted laws:

  • appointing a Medical Treatment Decision Maker (MTDM) using Advance Care Planning
  • appointing an Enduring Power of Attorney (PoA)
  • writing an Advance Care Directive (ACD)
  • accessing Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD)

Support from DWDV

DWDV is able to provide you with support in the following ways:

  • Request a volunteer to act as a Witness or Contact Person, as defined in the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2017
  • Find out about end-of-life options on our website or by contacting us
  • Get help to navigate voluntary assisted dying services
  • Connect to end-of-life counselling
  • Report problems or barriers to having your end-of-life rights respected
  • Request a speaker to provide an information session to your club or group

Also, DWDV...

  • monitors how the new end-of-life laws are working in practice
  • assists other states and territories achieve voluntary assisted dying legislation
  • works to ensure that voluntary assisted dying regulations are practical
  • works with other organisations to cooperatively achieve our purpose

DWDV provides referral to counselling but does not assist people to end their lives.
