From South Australia, the late Professor Arnold Gillespie was awarded an Order of Australia for his significant service to medicine, particularly for his advocacy for voluntary assisted dying (VAD).
It is wonderful to see his work deservedly acknowledged. From 2013 to 2019, he served as the Vice President of Voluntary Assisted Dying South Australia (VADSA). He was also a founding member and later became the 15-year National Convenor of Doctors for Assisted Dying Choice.
Professor Gillespie played an integral role in advocating for VAD in South Australia. After its implementation, he sought an assisted death himself following a terminal illness.
